The First Light Collection

First Light

The first walk of the day

There is a version of this city that only dog owners meet.

The one before the buses. Before the shops raise their shutters and the pavements fill up with people going somewhere. When the light has not decided what colour it is yet, and the streets belong to whoever is already awake.

You did not choose to be out there. He did.

He stood by the door until you gave in, and now you are on a road you have walked a thousand times, seeing it in a light most people never see it in. Your coat is over your pyjamas. Your hands are cold. Nothing is happening.

It is the most ordinary hour of the day, and it is yours.

First Light is built from it.

5am Blue

The sky before it commits to anything.

Not navy. Not grey. The blue that sits in the gap between the night giving up and the morning arriving, when the streetlights are still on but no longer doing much.

It is the colour of the walk you do not remember taking, in the week you cannot remember either. The one that happened anyway, because he needed it to.

First Sun

The moment the light finds something.

A wall. A wet pavement. The back of a dog who has stopped to smell something you will never understand.

It arrives without warning and it does not last. Ten minutes later the light is ordinary again and the day has started properly.

We wanted a yellow that behaves the same way. Warm, quick, and easy to miss if you are looking at your phone.

Two colours, one hour

Most colours in this category are chosen to match a dog. These were chosen to match a time of day.

Worn together or apart, they are the same hour seen twice: the part before the light comes, and the part after.

Where it is now

First Light is being made.

The fabric is with the dyers. The boxes are being proofed. The art booklet is set and waiting on a bound sample, because flat cream printed twelve pages in a row is harder to get right than it sounds.

We are still arguing about the exact shade of yellow.

There is no date yet. When there is one, you will hear it here first.

When it arrives

Leave your email below and we will tell you when First Light is ready. Nothing else, and not often.
